The Story

A journey of discovery, hope, and gratitude - From the vibrant streets of Durban, South Africa, to tables across the United Kingdom.

A South African expat in the UK for over 23 years, Greg's heart beats for two things: family and flavour. After spending 13 years helping grow Nando's from 40 to 400 restaurants, he swapped the corporate peri-peri life for his own recipes and the chance to build something truly special, while hoping to make a positive impact, change lives, and have a lot of fun along the way.

  • 13 years at Nando's, helping grow the brand from 40 to 400 restaurants.
  • Launched African Chow, also known as CHOW!, in Brighton in 2022.
  • Built Bunny UK with Craig Deacon to take Durban curries further across the UK.
  • Now runs BunnyAtHome and is building subscriptions, loyalty rewards, and more.

The Journey

From Durban to Your Doorstep

1980s

Growing Up in Durban

In 1980, Greg and his family moved from Gauteng to Durban, where Greg began his schooling. Durban was a vibrant and rapidly growing city throughout the 1980s, and Greg settled in quickly.

He attended Our Lady of Fatima, Glenashley Junior Primary, Virginia Senior Primary, and later Northlands, which merged with Beachwood to form Northwood. A keen and capable sportsman, Greg played rugby and cricket throughout his school years and learned to surf in his teens, fully embracing Durban's coastal lifestyle.

Greg's catering career began at just 13 years old when he worked at The Burger Ranch in Glenashley, earning R5 an hour plus a meal. After leaving school, he joined Spur and Panarottis, helped open the Panarottis at La Lucia Mall, and later became Area Manager for Panarottis across Gauteng and the Northern Transvaal.

1999

Leaving the Nest

In his mid-20s, Greg packed his bags and left Durban and South Africa behind, arriving in the United Kingdom with little more than grit, determination, and a deep love for the bold, comforting flavours of his Southern African home.

2005-2019

The Nando's Chapter

Greg joined the Nando's flock, dedicating 13 years to helping grow the iconic South African brand from 40 to 400 restaurants. For a decade, he led and developed Nando's across South East London, playing a pivotal role in building what has become an exceptional UK business.

This chapter not only taught Greg invaluable lessons in leadership and business growth but also gave him the courage and resilience to start Bunny UK and, most importantly, the determination to never give up.

2022

A New Beginning

With faith and a handful of family recipes, Greg launched African Chow, better known as CHOW!, in Brighton, a small start with a massive heart.

Driven by a passion to share authentic Durban street food with the UK, a desire to do good and feed hungry people, and the dream of owning a yacht one day, Greg set out to make his mark.

2025

Bunny UK is Born

Sharpening its focus on delivering the ultimate Durban experience, starting with the legendary Bunny Chow.

Lifelong friend and fellow Durbanite Craig Deacon joined the business, bringing experience, strategic insight, investment, and a shared passion for Greg's vision to make Durban curries and Bunny Chows a household name in the UK.

BunnyAtHome was launched and successfully trialled, while Bunny Chows and Durban curries made their retail debut at Billytong in Cobham, receiving remarkable feedback and strong early success.

2026
